Peonies in watercolor: A Floral Study

May 25th • 1:00pm -3:00pm

Peonies are in bloom, and we are expressing them in Watercolor.

Deep dive into the iconic bloom of the Peony flower in this beginner-friendly workshop!

Build upon foundational floral painting techniques to create a loose Peonies cluster composition. We will explore the shapes, strokes, and specific greenery details to express the Peony flower in its various stages of life! We will discuss your brush's specific strokes, movements, directionality, and paint application to achieve this loose floral representation.

We will focus on creating an organic and loose study of the single Peony flower and its leaves.

During class, we will discuss illustrative watercolor painting practices to capture the essence of this flower. Students will complete an 8x10 floral study to take home!

In this class, students will work from life and use actual Peonies as inspiration  At the beginning of the workshop, students will be able to build their own “bouquet” from a collection of various Peonies and use them as a reference for the class. They can also take them home with them at the end of class!

Students will receive a workbook to follow with the instructor during the class!

This class is a great building block for those students who have taken beginning floral watercolor classes.

Level:

Though this is a beginner-friendly class, it is excellent for those who consider themselves at the intermediate level, have a basic understanding of brush control and the power of wet-on-dry painting, and would like to push toward a more detailed flower!

We will focus on the Peony's petal shape and accompanying stems and greens.
