Roses in watercolor: from bud to bloom

February 24th • 1:00pm -3:00pm

THERE IS NO OTHER MONTH THAT CELEBRATES ROSES LIKE FEBRUARY!

JOIN ME AS WE EXPLORE THE ROSE'S BEAUTY FROM BUD TO BLOOM.

OUR CLASS WILL FOCUS ON MASTERING THE RADIAL SHAPE OF ROSES AND THE CLUSTER OF “HUGGING” PETALS AROUND THEIR ICONIC BUDS. WE WILL WORK WITH MINIMAL FLORAL SKETCHES AND A LIMITED COLOR PALETTE, FOCUSING ON CREATING AN ORGANIC AND LOOSE ROSE STUDY OF A SINGLE FLOWER AND ITS LEAVES AND, ULTIMATELY, A ROSE CLUSTER BOUQUET FROM LIFE.

During class, we will discuss layering, glazing, and detail driven by illustrative watercolor painting to capture the essence of these flowers. Students will work with warm-up exercises toward a completed 8x10 floral study to take home!

Students will work from life and use actual roses as inspiration in this class. Students will be able to build their own “bouquet” from a collection of roses at the beginning of the workshop and use them as a reference for the class, as well as take them home with them at the end of class!

Students will receive a workbook to follow with the instructor during the class!

This class is a great building block for those students who have taken beginning floral watercolor classes and are interested in exploring compositional planning and illustrative Watercolor painting.

Level:

Though this is a beginner-friendly class, it is excellent for those who consider themselves at the intermediate level, have a basic understanding of brush control and the power of wet-on-dry painting, and would like to push toward a more detailed, planned, and advanced composition!
